Namibia chief hails kgosi Tawana decision

Ovambanderu paramount chief from Namibia, Kilus Nguvauva has hailed Kgosi Tawana Moremi’s decision to retire from active politics and focus on the socio-economic development of the Batawana.
He said Kgosi Tawana would now dedicate his life to the promotion and preservation of the Batawana traditional and customary heritage for future generation.
Speaking during Kgosi Tawana’s 50th birthday celebraration held at Batawana main kgotla on October 5, Kgosi Nguvauva acknowledged the relationship between his tribe and Batawana noting that their tradition and customary heritage were linked.
Batawana and Ovambanderu, he said shared a great history, a journey worth remembering and a bond established long back by their forefathers.
The relationship, he said dated back to 1850s when his grandfather Kahimemua Nguvauva visited Kgosi Letsholathebe I and the two exchanged gifts.
Kgosi Nguvauva called on both tribes to jealously guard and preserve the rich history and good working relations at all times for prosperity adding that ‘yes there will be ups and downs along the way but we should always remember that what was sealed off by our forefathers cannot under any circumstances be undone by us’.
He urged Batawana to celebrate their paramount chief home coming, love, respect and support him like never before.
By doing so, he said they would be promoting traditional values of Batawana as a whole.
Kgosi Nguvauva stressed the need to rally behind their kgosi as he would be charting a new course for the growth and socio-economic development of their region.
He also thanked Kgosi Tawana’ s family especially his mother who stood firm during very testing times and happier times.
He also acknowledged efforts and support by Kgosi Tawana’s regiment, Matsaakgang saying they stood by their kgosi since the year 1995.
Many speakers described Kgosi Tawana as great, caring loving and humble man who loved peace and imparted wisdom and knowledge to many people.
Heir to the Batawana chieftainship, Oatile Tawana Moremi described his father as pillar, a special man who stood by his family.
He said he had learnt a lot from him as he taught him to be strong, never give up and love life even during difficult times.
Oatile wished his father a blessed journey noting that all eyes were on him and urged him to lead his people with wisdom.
Kgosi Tawana confirmed that Batawana and Ovambanderu came along way and thanked Kgosi Nguvauva and entourage for gracing his birthday celebration.
He said they would keep on growing their friendship and extend it to their children.
Matsaakgang regiment leader, Kgosi Charles Letsholathebe explained the role of the regiment saying they play an advisory role to Batawana Kgosi and also take part in community development projects.
He said currently, they were in the process of building a shelter at the post office to used by pensioners during paying days.
He pleaded with the business community and the community at large to join hands to ensure the success of the project. ENDs
