MVA Fund enlists help of social workers

24 Sep 2019

Collaboration is very critical towards achievement of goals, says Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA), senior manager Case Management, Ms Lydia Masilo-Nkhoma.

Ms Masilo-Nkhoma was speaking at the closing of a one-day Social Workers’ Engagement Seminar organised by MVA Fund in Molepolole recently.

She said collaboration with stakeholders such as the Social Protection department was important as it could help guard against abuse of the fund thereby assisting the vulnerable.

The department, she said, was one of the critical stakeholders towards MVA’s operations, saying it helped to redirect and monitor cases of the vulnerable people.

“We consider you as the most important stakeholders in our operations, as it is through your participation that MVA Fund would be able to ensure proper monitoring of cases within your jurisdiction for appropriate actions,” said Ms Masilo-Nkhoma

She however outlined some of the hiccups impacting on their delivery, which included failure to reach out to people in RADP community with some of their cases being left unattended due to their vulnerability.

She added that the presence of social workers would help to uncover such cases.

Empowering Social and Community Development committee, she said, would help monitor and sensitise the less privileged.

Outlining the workshop objectives, the MVA’s Case manager rehabilitation, Ms Lesedi Molatedi said the seminar was meant to establish a platform for social welfare professionals to engage in group interactions and networking for best practices.

She said they engaged social workers to provide working relations, enhance and maintain stakeholders’ relationships, as well as improve the delivery of services to the clients.

Ms Molatedi said the decision to build rapport with social workers was mainly to have them as the eyes of the vulnerable and ensure that benefits for the beneficiaries serve the intended purpose.

Presenting the workshop overview, the Case manager, Ms Buyani Chidoda urged road users to act responsibly as that would reduce the burden on government caused by increased road accidents. Ends
