Setlalekgosi Junior Secondary School head, Mr Babuluki Bajiti says to produce students who can conform to today’s societal demands, it is vital for schools to adopt the use of technologies to enhance learning.
Speaking at Our Lady of the Dessert Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) victory celebration on September 20, Mr Bajiti said that the present technological advancement called for the students to use technology to assist their studies.
He said with the aid of internet at home, a child would be able to study with ease, hence the need for the parents to provide such where possible.
Mr Bajiti urged the school management to be well prepared for future innovations by supporting the students with all the necessary resources.
Furthermore, Mr Bajiti said there was need for teachers to adapt to the ever changing technological world and employ the use of teaching aids that would not only spark interest among learners, but also make them effective and productive in their day to day teaching.
He added that parental support was also essential in the development of a child, adding that such had a profound bearing on pupils’ performance at school.
Mr Bajiti applauded the school for its impressive results and supposed that it demonstrated determination by the teachers, the pupils and the parents.
He said community leaders should also come on board and help eradicate all destructive factors that may derail students’ focus and support schools.
Setalekgosi head said it was time for an all-encompassing effort from all stakeholders to produce a learner who would fit well in the global spheres of life, hence the theme, Gearing Towards Prosperity with Globally Competitive Learners.
Mr Bajiti said severe monitoring was necessary for a boy child as they tended to indulge more in things that were not educational, hence their poor performance.
The school head, Ms Margret Hunyepa said it had become apparent that the girl child was outperforming their male counterparts at school. She said the school introduced a reception class this year with the hope of adding another class next year.
Ms Hunyepa said they had admitted 22 foreign students from countries such as Zambia, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Bangladesh. She said Our Lady, a Roman Catholic school, was currently undergoing maintenance as most of the facilities were not in a good condition.
The school head appreciated Francistown City Council for always helping the school in both academic and non-curricular activities. Ends
