Galaxy Police in stalemate

In a mid-week fixture played in Jwaneng on Wednesday, Jwaneng Galaxy managed to salvage a draw with a last minute equaliser against Police XI to console their supporters who came in numbers to rally behind them.

Galaxy supporters could only watch as Police XI took control of the game from the first whistle. They pressed the home side until Gilbert Baruti conjured some magic from a free-kick from the edge of the box with seven minutes to go, canceling out the lead that Police XI had enjoyed for the better part of the game.

The visitors found the back of the net on the half-hour mark through Gift Moyo after he took advantage of a failure by Galaxy’s defence to clear their lines.

Within two minutes of the goal, Galaxy was given a lifeline after Lemogang Maswena was fouled inside the box. However, Isaac Paeye missed the resultant penalty.

For most of the first half, the visitors were a better team, especially going forward and they created more chances than their hosts. Perhaps they did an injustice for themselves by sitting back in the second half, which allowed

Galaxy a chance to move forward, only to be denied on numerous occasions by Police XI shot-stopper, Lesego Bosekeng who was on top form.

Police XI had to absorb pressure in the last minutes as Galaxy pushed forward in search of a winner after the late equaliser, and after the game, the Jungle Kings coach, Mike Sithole indicated that it was a good result for his boys.

“It’s not easy to come and claim a point away to a good team like Galaxy. A draw with them any day is a good result, although it was a dying minutes salvage. The result is especially good looking at the fact that we lost our last game and we could not afford another loss,” he said.

Sithole, however, said they almost undid themselves by giving away too many free-kicks, especially on the edge of the box which led to the Galaxy equaliser. He also said the result was a good morale booster for their next game against Extension Gunners at Otse Police College this Sunday.

After wrangling with the media and refusing a post-match interview, it took the effort of club chairperson, Njabulo Gilika to convince Galaxy coach, Miguel Da Costa to grant the mandatory interviews.

Da Costa said his beef with the media was that they never presented him well. “You should see what the media writes about me. So I’m not going to grant any interviews for this whole season, and you can take it up with the premier league,” he threatened.

However, Gilika convinced him to do the interviews. ENDS
