First Division debutants, Maun United Terrors made a grand entry bv holding Sua Flamingos to a 2-2 draw during the Debswana First Division North league encounter at Maun Sports Complex over the weekend.

The new kids on the block seemed unfazed by Flamingos and made their intentions to stay in the league known by testing the net towards the end of the first half through speedy striker, Olorato Nawa’s shot. Maun Terrors boys displayed bravery towards their rivals who had been in the league for some time and finished in third position at the end of the season. The hosts gave their visitors a hard time the entire game even though the game started in a low note.

It was evident that Flamingos was caught off guard by the league’s new entrants who responded well to their pressure and experience.

Despite Sua Flamingos’ strong and solid middle and wings the Maun side managed to read their moves and derail their plan which saw Nawa extending the lead hardly 10 minutes after the break.

The two goals rubbed the visitors the wrong way as they piled pressure on their hosts who seemed relaxed and fatigued. Sua Flamingos’s efforts proved worthy as Ogomoditse Bauweni scored a brace shattering the host’s dreams of starting the league on a high. Lack of communication amongst Terrors’ defence denied them to collect the maximum three points as Bauweni found it easy to penetrate and score. His first goal was 10 minutes before the end of game and amazed the opponents and supporters as he scored the second goal in a space of three minutes.

Sua Flamingoes head coach, Rapelang Tsatsilebe admitted that they had mixed feelings as their hosts went for recess leading, but appreciated that his boys increased pressure to equalise in the second half.

“While we were in a jubilant mood, we managed to salvage another goal making it a draw. I am happy with my boys’ performance as they fought hard to get at least a point,” he added.

He said they were forced to take a risky decision by taking out a defender, but appreciated that such had worked wonders for his side.

The coach said his boys were ready for the game even though they experienced challenges in post-preparation as they could not play with strong teams in Sowa Town because most their preparations were away as they had to travel 400km. He believed that his boys would play to their best during the season as they aim to be promoted to the elite league.

Maun Terrors assistant coach, Kenanao Abraham said the game was fair and gave credit to his boys for displaying bravery towards a big team.

He said their rivals had been in the league for the past four seasons and had been missing promotion to the elite league by a whisker.

The coach said experience worked for Flamingos. ends
