Police investigate murder of 82 year man

Police probe the murder of an 82-year -old man of Lesetlheng ward in Molepolole. The man was allegedly killed by a 53-year-old man of the same area on Monday afternoon while trying to buy electricity at a tuck-shop near his home.
The man allegedly met his untimely death after being hit with a sharp object suspect to be an axe.
The incident is said to have occurred while the victim was being assisted by the tuckshop owner at around 2pm.
Ms Matlakala Nthompe, the tuck-shop owner told BOPA in an interview said the traumatic incident occurred in front of her two and a half year old grandchild while she (Ms Nthompe) assisting the victim who had come to buy electricity .
She said the perpetrator approached the tuck-shop and without uttering a word attacked the victim by hitting him on the neck with the object leaving him for dead.
The visibly distressed Ms Nthompe said the suspect repeatedly chopped the old man’s head she screamed for help but could not get any until the intruder ran away.
“I tried to grab the weapon from intruder, while screaming for help at the same time, but he over powered me during a scuffle he pushed me away before repeatedly hitting the old man,” said Ms Nthompe
Assistant Superintendent Percy Kerekang of Molepolole police station confirmed the incident, stating it was brought to their attention Monday afternoon, and they took the badly injured victim to Scottish Livingstone Hospital in Molepolole where he was declared dead on arrival.
Mr Kerekang said the suspect had not yet been arrested as he immediately escaped following the incident.
He appealed to members of the public to help with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
Meanwhile, the deceased relative Ms Sarah Motswakhumo could not be drown into discussing the issue saying they did not have much information about what transpired. ENDS
