Boyfriend cuts off lovers ears

11 Sep 2019

A 39-year-old man of Botlhapapelo ward in Kumakwane was on on September 10 arraigned before Molepolole Magistrate Raphael Ike for allegedly cutting off his girlfriends ears Saturday afternoon following a misunderstanding.

The Bobonong woman, whose ears have been cut off, is reported to be in a serious, but stable condition at Princess Marina in Gaborone.

Joseph Beset allegedly lured the victim, who hails from Bobonong in the Central District, to the bush in the outskirts of Kumakwane under the pretext that he was going to slaughter a goat, whereupon the scuffle occured.

The accused’s plea for bail did not bear fruit as the prosecution argued that the matter was at a preliminary stage, with the victim still undergoing treatment for severe injuries he allegedly inflicted on her.
Objecting to Beset’s accused’s bail application, prosecutor Seargent Modise Masala told the court that his office had not yet been able to record statements from prosecution witnesses including the victim, whom he said had difficulty speaking and hearing due to injuries.

When Beset pleaded to be released, he stated that he had a school-going child and a broilers chicken project, which were likely to suffer if his incarceration was to be prolonged.
Magistrate Ike however ordered that the accused be remanded until September 24.

The magistrate’s argument was that the prosecution needed to be afforded ample time to complete investigations before the bail issue could be decided.
He therefore ordered prosecution to ensure that the accused relatives were contacted to help in taking care of the project and the child.

Thamaga police’s Assistant Superintendent Busang Malope told BOPA that it was not yet known what could have led to the incident, except that the couple had had some misunderstanding.

Meanwhile Ass. Supt. Malope is calling for member of the public to help identify the body of a man aged between 25 and 30 who was found hanging from a tree behind Phuting cemeteries in Thamaga, on September 9 in the morning.

The deceased, Ass. Supt. Malope said, was found hanging by Metsimotlhaba River without any traces of where he could be originating.
He is said to be wearing blue jeans pants, yellow shirt, and black flip-flops. The body is lying at Thamaga Primary Hospital, where viewing is taking place during office hours. ends
