Accused granted bail pending High Court ruling

Francistown High Court judge Phadi Solomon has granted bail to Kenaleone Daniel at a hearing held at Maun Magistrate Court last week.

The 27-year-old Daniel, who resides at Senonnori ward in Maun is charged with malicious damage to property, belonging to one Moyakuyi Kandondi worth about P13 632. On count two, Daniel is facing a charge of causing injury to an animal belonging to the complainant. 

The damaged properties in question involved a television set, window panes, doors, kitchen scheme, standpipe and others as well as causing injury to a donkey.

Justice Solomon granted the accused bail pending the High Court ruling, which has to establish whether Daniel was not a criminal lunatic.

Pertaining to the bail conditions, Justice Solomon said the accused would have to bind himself with P1 000 and produce two sureties who are citizens who would bind themselves with P1 000 each.

Daniel is also expected to surrender his passport to the Maun police, appear in court whenever required and report to the Maun Police every Friday. The High Court ruling to determine the accused’s mental stability would be held at the Francistown High Court on September 26.
