BDF kills two poachers

Maun police are investigating an incident in which two suspected poachers were killed in the Okavango Delta.
Senior Superintendent Samuel Kgomo said in an interview that the poachers were killed by four Botswana Defence Force officers who were patrolling Mambo area within the delta.
He said the incident happened on the evening of 25 August, as the quartet was following tracks suspected to be of poachers.
He further explained that along the way, they heard a gunshot which was followed by a wounded rhino running towards them.
Senior Supt Kgomo said the rhino was later found dead some 500 metres away from the scene.
He said the deceased are suspected to be foreigners.
He expressed concern about the escalating numbers of poaching incidents in his policing area but could not reveal statistics, adding that most suspects were foreigners.
Meanwhile, Senior Supt Kgomo said they were investigating a defilement case in which a 16-year-old girl has been impregnated by her stepfather.
He said they received a report from the sister of the victim who reported that the victim said the said stepfather had been sexually abusing her since 2012 while she was ten-years-old. Ends
