Mhotsha co-accused get bail

The trio of Lebogang Mhotsha, Poloko Seduke and Kefilwe Ramoitoi, who are in court on a charge of conspiracy to robbery, were on August 22 released on a P5 000 cash bail by the Broadhurst Magistrates Court.

Presiding magistrate Ms Atlanang Baleseng ordered that in addition to the condition that each of the accused persons paid the said amount, they should each also provide one surety who would bind themselves with P2 000.

Ms Baleseng also ordered the accused to surrender their passports to the Mogoditshane Police Station station commander.

She further ordered them not to interfere with state witnesses and directed that they also attend court as required.

Moving the application for bail, attorney Mr Ofentse Khumomotse for Mhotsha, had informed the court that the defense had engaged with the prosecution on the matter of bail and the state was not opposed to the accused persons being granted bail.

The third accused, Ramoitoi was represented by Mr Nkepe Mabudu whereas the second accused, Seduke was self-represented.

Sub-Inspector Keaipela Seekolo represented the state.

Mhotsha, Seduke and Ramoitoi are accused of conspiring to rob four Batswana who were enroute to Durban, South Africa to purchase motor vehicles and during the robbery, two of the victims lost their lives.

They allegedly committed the offence through the aid of some South African men whose identities were yet to be established.

According to the information before court, the robbery took place in South Africa on July 26, and victims were robbed of funds totaling R350 900 (over P256 000, US$10 500 (over P116 000) and P500 as well as a cellphone valued at P3 000.

The accused will appear for another mention on September 19. ENDS
