The community of Sankoyo has reiterated its commitment to continue rallying behind Sankoyo Bush Bucks Football Club, despite its relegation from the premier league.
The community, therefore, has instructed the trust to continue assisting the club financially. Sankoyo Tshwaragano Development Trust has been the pillar of the club since its formation until its elevation to the premier league in 2014.
The Maun-based outfit survived for two consecutive seasons in the elite league before relegating to first division at the end of last season when it finished in position 14.
The trust assistant manager, Nkgololang Samakata, confirmed in an interview that the team management visited Sankoyo recently where they held a successful meeting with the community. During the meeting, he said issues of the status and welfare of the team and its future plans were deliberated upon. The community, he explained, reached a consensus to continue supporting the team with high hope that it would bounce back to the premier league.
At the end of the meeting, Samakata said the community gave the club its blessings and urged the trust to see how best they could assist the team to recruit and facilitate registration of new players in an effort to assemble a quality squad before commencement of the season.
Samakata noted that although the trust did not have a specific budget for the team, they managed to inject P50 000 towards the signing of new players and their welfare.
Going forward, he said, they would assist where possible.
Kgosi Gokgathang Moalosi of Sankoyo welcomed the move by the club management to engage the community saying it would strengthen the working relationship between the club and the community.
He was pleased to learn that the club would hold its annual general meeting in Sankoyo.
He also appreciated that though the trust was not financially stable, the community thought it was necessary to assist the club for the love of sport and the team’s survival.
Kgosi Moalosi was also optimistic that the team would trace its roots and called on supporters to always rally behind the team. He urged supporters to attend the scheduled AGM in large numbers and share ideas and advice management in the running of the club.
Kgosi Moalosi said some supporters were good at criticizing management instead of supporting the team to grow and perform better. ENDS
