Police launch manhunt for Choppies robbers
14 Aug 2019
Thamaga police have launched an intensive manhunt for three unknown assailants suspected to have robbed Thamaga Choppies Store an unspecified amount of cash Sunday evening.
Thamaga Police Station commander, Superintendent, Moses Kwarare told BOPA in an interview that the three suspects appeared with their faces covered with balaclava around 8pm, forcing an entrance to the shop by kicking the glass door after the shop had closed.
The incident, according to Mr Kwarare, sent a panic wave to employees and the security guard, who ran to the back of the shop to seek refuge, leaving the suspects, who later made away with three tills containing cash.
The station commander expressed optimism over the arrest of the perpetrators as one of them was hit by a moving car causing him to sustain injuries, the situation he said would force him to seek medical attention.
The three, he said, got into their black Toyota Corolla with the injured accomplice, whom they picked from the ground and drove off.
Mr Kwarare is appealing to health officials in all the health facilities to be on the lookout for any suspected individuals who have sustained injuries and report to the nearest police station.
They suspect the robbers to be all Batswana as they were reported to be fluent in Setswana. ENDS
