The senior women national football team registered their third consecutive win in Slovakia after defeating FC Tatran Prešov 10-0 in a game played at NTC Propad Stadium on Tuesday.
In their first game, they won 1-0 against Bardejov and the solo goal was scored by Bame Ngenda while in their second game, Lesego Radiakanyo and Refilwe Tholakelo netted two goals against FK Poprad winning 2-0.
And during the Tuesday game against FC Tatran Prešov, the three goals were scored by Masego Montsho, Masego Nfandiso and Atang Busang in the first stanza of the game.
In the second half, FC Tatran Prešov came determined to reverse the score line, but they made a lot of mistakes in trying to attack Botswana and in the process leaving their defence and goalkeeper exposed.
Botswana capitalised on their mistakes, scoring seven goals in the second half, which were converted by Boitumelo Gammu, Thuto Ramafifi, Refilwe Tholakelo, Goitsemang Tlamma, Popego Simon, Lesego Radiakanyo while Lesego Radiakanyo scored a brace.
Assistant coach, Alex Malete said he was happy that they managed to keep a clean sheet in all the three games.
“We can only keep on working hard, and it is good that we had our attackers managing to score goals, and I am sure that after this game, they are feeling good. Their confidence is coming back and it is something that we need for our main game against South Africa,” he said.
Furthermore, Malete said despite winning with a big margin, they still had a lot of work to do.
He was of the view that they could have won ball possession a bit quicker, adding that for the first 25 minutes, the players dominated the game, but they did not score, something, which he said disturbed the technical bench.
FC Tatran Prešov coach, Marek SemanÄik said despite losing with a big margin, he was impressed by his team’s performance given that he was using under 19 players.
“For us, it is a big experience because we have never played against a team from Africa. Therefore, we are very happy to have played with Botswana women national football team,” he said.
The coach said his team, which was made up of young players, displayed a sense of maturity.
Even though Botswana came with guns blazing, he said they kept their cool. ENDS
