Women football pulls few crowds in Slovakia

Slovakia just like Botswana experience low turnout of spectators during women national football team games.
Slovenský Futbalový Zväz (SFZ) public relations manager, Peter Zaman said in an interview that they were frustrasted by the fact that the stadium was always full to capacity whenever their male counterparts were playing.
According to Zaman, around 1 000 spectators attend women national football team games; a number, which he said, was low given that, women just like their male counterparts, needed all the support so as to overcome their opponents during their games.
He said women football in Slovakia like in Botswana was developing, adding that there was progress hence they need the support.
He admitted that men football had been played for a long time, while in other countries women football was just introduced.
“Even during the women league game, the attendance is very low, and it is something that has long caught our attention, and we have come up with different strategies to entice more people to attend women football games,” he said.
He called on all federations, which were facing the same predicament of low attendance to exercise a bit of patience as football lovers would eventually understand the importance of women football.
In Slovakia, he said they had come up with different strategies to lure spectators to the football games, such as activations and campaigns both on their website and social media platforms.
Zaman stated that the SFZ had also resolved to take all their women national football team games to small cities in their effort to take the team to different regions.
The plan, he said was bearing fruits as people from small cities turned up in large numbers.
“We must have young women playing football in all parts of the country that alone will help as people will appreciate women football in their respective regions” he said.
Zaman, said despite all the challenges, federations should continue to develop women football, and more emphasis should be on grassroots development. ENDS
