Court remands Kutuku man
13 Aug 2019
Magistrate Odirile Mokgatle of Jwaneng on August 12 denied 26-year-old Kesotlegile Malwetsi bail.
Malwetsi, from Kutuku in the Southern District, is facing four charges of threat to kill, rape, unlawful wounding and resisting arrest.
Magistrate Mokgatle said it was appropriate to further remand the accused in custody considering the prosecution’s argument that he had a propensity of breaking the law.
Malwetsi reportedly committed the said offences while on bail for murder.
Magistrate Mokgatle also agreed with the prosecution that the matter was still fresh and investigations were at infancy stage.
He argued that the said offences were committed against close relatives who stayed with the accused in the same household, therefore, there was need to protect them against further abuse.
Again, he said, granting the accused bail would enable him to temper with evidence, especially looking at the gravity of accusations.
The accused was charged for threatening to kill one Tshenyego Koosenye by uttering the words ‘Ke tlaa go bolaya ke bo ke ipolaya’ on August 8 near Kutuku.
Malwetsi was also accused of having had carnal knowledge of another complainant without her consent near Serogwane lands the following day.
He allegedly resisted arrest by two police officers and further stabbed one of them with a knife, thereby adding two more offences to his charge sheet.
He will appear again for mention on August 26. Ends
