11 Aug 2019

Broadhurst magistrate, Ms Tshepo Thedi, on Friday remanded in custody a 30-year-old unemployed woman of Lesirane in Mogoditshane, Lebogang Mhotsha.

The accused was arrested on Thursday for conspiring to rob four people; two of whom lost their lives and the third critically injured in a hijacking incident that took place near Swartruggens in South Africa.

Mhotsha is accused of, acting together and in concert with another suspect who is still at large, having conspired to rob Naledi Leburu, Albert Basinyi, Orapeleng Phetso and Rebaone

Kgaditswe through the aid of six South African men whose identities were not yet known.

According to the particulars of the offence, the robbery took place on July 26, with funds in three different currencies- the South African rand, American dollar and the pula- to the amount of R350 900, US$10 500 and P500 as well as a J6 Plus Samsung cellphone valued at P3 000.

The victims were reportedly on their way to Durban, South Africa, to purchase motor vehicles while Mhotsha and her accomplice were alleged to have assisted the robbers in planning to execute the crime.

The prosecutor, Inspector Keaipela Seekolo, of Mogoditshane police urged the court to remand Mhotsha in custody while they worked on further investigations.

She said the accused had only been arrested the day before and the police were still working with South African police through Interpol for further investigations.

Mhotsha, who confirmed to court that she would seek legal representation, did not oppose the plea by the state for her to be remanded in custody.

The court scheduld next mention for August 22. ENDS
