07 Aug 2019
Elias Lekganyane ,36 accused of raping a 12-year-old appeared before the Broadhurst Magistrate court on August 5 for failure to adhere to bail conditions.
One of the bail conditions was that Lekganyane should not have any contact with the victim.
He is alleged to have raped the minor at Ledumang in Gaborone in April this year.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Keaipela Seekolo of Mogoditshane police station, the victim’s mother called the police twice pleading with them to warn Lekganyane to stay away from her child.
The victim’s mother is said to have told the police that Lekganyane met the victim at a tuck shop in Ledumang and asked her if she still remembered him.
Scared and confused, the victim is said to have ran home and reported the matter to her mother who called the police to lodge a complaint.
Lekganyane told the court that when he was granted bail, he moved to Gabane as he was ordered not to have any contact with the victim.
He said that on that particular day, he had gone to Ledumang, to check on his mother who resides there.
The accused further said as he and his friend were walking to the tuck shop, they saw the little girl and he asked his friend that they take a different route.
Lekganyane denied asking the girl if he remembered him.
The Chief Magistrate Ms Linah Mokibe-Oahile ordered that the victim be brought to court on the next mention as Lekganyane said the accusations were false.
She warned Lekganyane against violating bail conditions, which she said could result in the bail being revoked.
The victim will appear before the magistrate Court on September 12. ENDS
