06 Aug 2019
Police are investigating an incident in which a 34-year-old man is alleged to have raped a 74-year-old woman living with disability in Kang recently. Superintendent Olebeng Chingabe said in an interview that the matter was reported by a granddaughter to the victim.
The duo (victim and suspect) allegedly met at a drinking spot.
Superintendent Chingabe said the young man asked the elderly woman to accompany him to attend to goats that were in the vicinity. Later the granddaughter left to check on her grandmother who was nowhere to be found.
Supt Chingabe said the granddaughter allegedly re-traced her steps back to the drinking spot in search of her grandmother.
Shoe prints led her to a spot where she found the duo hugging and the suspect dusting the victim’s soiled clothes.
Supt Chingabe said the police conducted some tests on both the suspect and the victim.
He said the elderly woman was yet to be taken to Sbrana Psychiatric hospital for insanity assessments. ENDS
