Maun police investigate murder suicide

Police in Maun are investigating an incident in which a 26-year-old woman of Shashe ward in Maun was murdered by her ex-lover, who later committed suicide.

In an interview with BOPA, officer commanding District no.5, Senior Superintendent Peter Gochela said the 38-year-old man used a sharp object to stab the deceased before hanging himself in the same house on the morning of July 26.

He said the incident happened around 0900hrs at Shashe ward in Maun where the woman who worked as cleaner at one of the financial banks resided.

Snr. Supt Gochela said the ex-boyfriend who stayed at Tsau village, visited the deceased on the evening July 25 with the purpose to request that his particulars be added to the birth certificate of their four-year-old daughter.

The woman, according to Maun police chief was reported to have agreed to do  it  the following morning and offered the ex-lover accommodation in her house while she went to sleep at the neighbours house .

As soon as the woman came to her house the following morning the ex-lover stabbed her on the throat using a sharp object, he said.

Senior Supt Gochela said the deceased’s daughter aged four was seen by neighbours idling alone and informed them about the predicament of her parents. 

He said police investigations continued while awaiting postmortem results.

Still in Maun, police are investigating an incident in which a 28-year-old woman was raped on July 27 around 0000hrs. 

According to Assistant Superintendent Chenamo Orateng of Maun police the victim was walking from the club situated in old mall accompanied by her boyfriend when they met about three assailants.

He said one of the three men dragged the victim to a nearby deserted tuck shop where he raped her while the other two held the boyfriend. 

ASP Orateng said the suspects were still at large. Ends
