Candle light event attracts more partners

The annual mayor’s candle light, an initiative by the Jwaneng mayor, Mr Amos Jahana has attracted more partners.

The objectives of the mayor’s candle light, which is to encourage and motivate stakeholders to partner with schools for good marks, has yielded results as they recently received a P10 000 from Jwaneng Mine and other private owned businesses.

Mayor Jahana thanked partners for their help saying the partnership will go a long way in encouraging and motivating students aim for higher results. He also said private companies’ involvement in the candle light showed support to the education and skills development ministry’s adopt-a-school initiative.

Botswana Education Hub Coordinator, Mr Lucky Moahi expressed gratitude to the efforts made by the mayor in participating in the ministry’s adopt-a-school initiative.

Mr Moahi also thanked partners in the mayor’s candle light saying their efforts motivated excellence among students thereby creating a conducive environment in development of skills in students.

He also said the ministry cannot independently develop the much needed skills in Botswana, adding for that to be achieved; partnership from parents, private organisations and individuals was paramount.

In trying to motivate students on the importance of education, the mayor’s candle light awarded certificates and P750 to best overall essays in primary and junior school in Jwaneng.

Students wrote essays on the topic; “There is no future without forgiveness.”

The mayor’s candle light is held every August to pray for students sitting for their final examinations.

The event was this year was held under the theme “Community partnership with schools is a key to academic excellence.”

It was attended by education senior executives including the director for south region, Mr Motsamai Phuthego and Bangwaketse Paramount Chief Malope II. Ends
