Motorsport off road championships intensify
28 Jul 2019
The seventh round of the Botswana Motorsport (BMS) off-road championships dubbed Kopong 200 held over the weekend was a marvel to watch as riders look to close the off road calendar on a high note.
The race, which attracted a good number of competitors and fans to the outskirts of Gaborone, provided riders with a scenic and challenging terrain around the sleepy village of Kopong.
The cars were making their second appearance since round three of the championship held in Malotwane in April.
In the OR 1 open class category of the two wheelers, Robert Pollock became the overall winner.
He was closely followed by former champion, Taye Perry.
Mohammed Jones came on the third spot.
In the high school category, Kosmas Mamaloukos continued with his fine form arriving in 2:40:33. His closest rival Teto Chibana did not finish the lap.
In the interesting senior bikes category of 38years and above, Owen Clulow beat veteran rider Lepsy Mosope to the first spot while James Alexander won the bike masters class.
Janine Du Toit became the champion in the ladies open class while Mike Wilkinson won the 250 two stroke class.
Wilkinson won a podium finish at this year’s Toyota desert race though he was riding on a different bike.
In the quads class Quentes Swanepoel beat Lesego Matlhware to the first spot.
In the production vehicles category Julio Ferreira was declared the overall winner after beating Ahmed Hussain in the much fancied class P class. Mohamed Moultson won class B while Altaf Maher won class D.
The final two rounds of the off road motorsport championships will be held in Maun and Serowe respectively. Ends
