FIFA fines bans Kgotlele for life

23 Jul 2019

Former Botswana Football Association chief executive officer, Tosh Kgotlele was on Monday slapped with an over half a million Pula fine and a lifetime ban from all football-related activities for accepting bribes.

A press release issued by world football governing body, FIFA says the adjudicatory chamber of the Independent Ethics Committee found Kgotlele guilty of having accepted bribes in relation to the manipulation of international matches in violation of the organisation’s code of ethics.

It says the formal ethics proceedings against Kgotlele were initiated in September last year stemming from an extensive investigation into various attempts to manipulate international matches for betting purposes by Wilson Raj Perumal, a known match-fixer.

Furthermore, the release says a large-scale investigation was conducted by FIFA through its competent departments and in cooperation with the relevant stakeholders and authorities.

According to the release, the release found that Kgotlele had breached article 12 (Bribery) of the 2006 edition of the FIFA Code of Ethics and banned him for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level.

In addition, a fine amounting to CHF 50 000, approximately P537 500, has been imposed on Kgotlele, who was notified of the decision on Monday, the date on which the ban comes into force, says the release. Ends
