Botswana Primary Schools Sports Association (BOPSSA) president, Busani Segweni says teacher coaches are still faced with remuneration challenges.

Speaking at the official opening of BOPSSA finals in Maun recently, Segweni said teacher coaches were promised allowances when overtime was stopped in primary schools.

However, Segweni said the allowances were still paid late to teacher coaches,  saying it was a demotivation to teachers who were dedicated to sports development at grassroots level.

He appealed to politicians to support their course.

Meanwhile, Tawana Moremi, who is also Member of Parliament for Maun West encouraged teachers in sports development to have hope.

He said the recent Botswana Teaching Council Bill had the support of Members of Parliament, a sign that MPs were concerned by the teachers’ condition of service.

Moremi said the proposed amendment showed that issues affecting teachers were being addressed.

The guest speaker, SKL Group of Companies chief executive officer, Reaboka Mbulawa commended BOPSSA for its commitment to nurturing talent in its 13 years of existence.

Mbulawa, who is also a specially elected councillor in the North West District, said government as an important stakeholder to BOPSSA had to support sports development.

He said BOPSSA champions and their coaches had to be supported when they represented the country against their counterparts in other countries.

Mbulawa assured BOPSSA officials that the local authority was committed to sports development and promised to take their concerns with the relevant ministry.

He further encouraged pupils to ensure their talent benefitted them as well as the country. Ends
