Nursing mother commits suicide at Hospital

A 21-year-old mother of a new born will be buried in Hatshalatladi, Kweneng District on June 29 after committing suicide a week ago by jumping off the first floor balcony of Scottish Livingstone Hospital in Molepolole.
According to a statement from the hospital, Ms Boitshoko Raboteka, who had just given birth to a baby girl, immediately left the hospital maternity wing around 8pm on June 20 while the midwife was still feeding the infant.
The statement says she suddenly rushed to the balcony, where she jumped hitting the ground face first and sustaining head injuries in the process. She was later certified dead.
Hospital authorities say Ms Raboteka showed no signs of mental illness nor depression on admission but the midwife had noticed a sudden change of behaviour and ordered her to remain in bed.
A family spokesperson, Ms Margaret Raboteka said although the deceased lost the father to her two children four months ago, she did not show any signs of depression until her demise.
“We are devastated by her death since she always appeared to have come to terms with the passing of her fiancé,” stated Ms Raboteka.
The uncle, Mr Moabinyana Raboteka, confirmed seeing the deceased in a jolly mood on her way to the hospital for admission.
The deceased is survived by the new born and an 18-month-old. Ends
