Prosecutor calls for remand of threat to kill accused

03 Jun 2019

A 33-year old man of Khurakhura ward in Ghanzi has appeared before Magistrate Lechane Wotho on a threat to kill charge.

Osego Mosetlhane, who was not asked to plead is accused of threatening the complainant by allegedly uttering the words, “Gompieno ke a go bolaya ,ke bo ke ipolaya” on May 26

Prosecutor, Inspector Chinga Pateletso made an application for the accused to be remanded in custody basing on the arguments advanced by the investigating officer.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Wisdom Mackson had said the accused was a danger to himself, citing that prior to his detention the accused had tried to commit suicide.

He said the accused had allegedly climbed the communication tower and threatened to jump from the top.

Also, he said they could not guarantee the safety of the complainant if the accused was released on bail, saying that he had history of violence as he once assaulted a police officer.

“During the incident we are here for, he dragged the complainant from the night club, in full view of patrons and bouncers,” he said, adding, ‘if he can do this in front of patrons and bouncer, attack an officer in front of other police officers, we feel that he can do this to the complainant if granted bail.”

Also, he advanced that the accused had violated his bail conditions, which was granted by the High Court in another separate matter.

The accused claimed that the issue was not about the alleged threat to kill, but rather the prosecution wants his bail granted by the high court to be revoked.

The accused, who during court proceeding kept on referring to the complainant as ‘my girlfriend’ told the court that, “from now on I will never refer to her as my girlfriend since am in court because of her.”

He claimed that the complainant had a love affair with somebody else, saying their relationship started when he was still in prison.

“She did not expect that I will be out of prison by now, so she wants to send me back to prison,” the accused stated.

Magistrate Wotho will deliver a ruling on whether the accused will be granted bail on June 11. ENDS
