Rat race for elite promotion
06 May 2019
Broadhurst United and Jwaneng Fighters shared the spoils in the Debswana First Division South League encounter played at Galaxy Stadium over the weekend.
The teams played to a goalless draw thus pegging Gilport Lions at the summit of the log standings with 39 points while Jwaneng Fighters is on second spot with 35 points followed by Mochudi Rovers on third position with 34 points.
Broadhurst United also has 34 points but on fourth position. Lions sailed through to the pinnacle after beating Modipane United 1-0 thus booking a ticket to the premier league promotion.
The Saturday results means Fighters will meet Morupule Wanderers in playoffs and should the former win they will be promoted to the elite league but however the latter is also poised to make history.
Fighters and United encounter started on a low but gained momentum as the game was getting old. It was evident that astuteness was a challenge for both teams. Fighters’ Lapologang Motlogi kept United defence on its toes but failed to gets the better of them as they proved to be a hard nut to crack.
In the opening minutes of the first half, Motlogi after navigating through defence positioning him in a good spot wasted the opportunity in what could have been an ice breaker.
Fighters’s Kago Keotlogele came close to snatching a goal after Broadhurst United defence failed to react to a loose ball inside the box but astuteness is a trait he must procure to bury such chances.
Both teams were committing school boy errors and ball hitting technique was not at its best.
United’s Thatayaone Ndlovu sold some dummies to opponents’ defence pulling a trigger with a powerful volley but Jwaneng Fighters goal keeper Kabelo Tshamekang was equal to the strike to thwart the effort in what could have been a brilliant goal. ENDS
