Man in custody for illegal possession of wildbeest meat

Nata police are holding a Zimbabwean illegal immigrant man who was found in possession of Wildebeest meat.

In an interview with Nata police station commander Superintendent Vincent Pitsietsile said the man was arrested on Easter Monday at Zoroga cattle post, saying investigations indicated that the suspect had a companion who fled the scene at the time of the  arrest. He said they were currently in search of the companion and they were appealing for information which would lead to the arrest of the suspect.

He said the accused persons would be charged with hunting without a license and entering Botswana at ungazetted point of entry.

He further noted that the employer of the accused persons had since been fined P500 for employing a non- citizen without permit.

In another incident Superintendent Pitsietsile said still on Easter Monday about 10 kilometers away from Zoroga, a mini bus carrying 16 passengers overturned killing one person.

He said the combi was in transit to Maun when it overturned adding that 15 other passengers were referred to Nyangabgwe Referral hospital in Francistown.

He said investigations were still on going to determine the cause of accident and the the next of kin of the deceased had since notified. ENDS
