Maun police investigates murder rape cases

Police in Maun have embarked on a search for suspects in connection with two rape incidents over the Easter holidays. Station commander, Superintendent Motlhaba Ramaabya confirmed the incidents noting that the victims met their ordeal when returning from entertainment spots.

The first incident involved a 24-year- old woman of Boseja ward, who was attacked by an unknown man on her way home.

He said the suspect dragged the victim to the nearby bush and raped her.

Another incident involved a 23-year-old woman who also was given a lift by an unknown man together with her friends when heading home from entertainment.

Superintendent Ramaabya said the victim reported that after dropping her friends, the suspect convinced her to accompany him to his place to collect something and on arrival, he dragged her into his house and raped her.

He said no arrest had been made and appealed to the public to assist police with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects. Still in Maun, a 30-year-old woman iwas arrested in connection with the murder of a 34-year-old man of Botshabelo ward. Superintendent Ramaabya said the suspect and deceased were in a relationship and they had a misunderstanding, which resulted in the suspect stabbing the deceased with a sharp object.

The incident took place on April 20 evening.

On the same night, Superintendent Ramaabya reported that a 20-year-old man of Boseja ward was found hanging from the rafters of his room. Narrating the story, he said  parents were shocked the following morning to find their son hanging. Police were also investigating an arson incident, in which a one roomed house at Moeti ward was burnt to ashes and property worth P29 000 destroyed.

Superintendent Ramaabya said the house belonged to a 35-year-old woman and the mother to the victim reported the matter.

He said they managed to arrest a certain man who is known to the victim to assist them in investigations. ENDS
