Murder accused pleads for liberation

Accused person in the murder of 28-year-old Judith Mosweu of Letlhakane in the Boteti area has asked the court to grant him bail because prosecution is failing to make progress on the case.
During his recent mention, Tebogo Kgotlayame, pleaded with Molepolole chief magistrate, Ms Alice Rammapudi, to release him since the prosecution was stalling the case by bringing in different prosecutors who were not familiar with the matter.
He argued that the prosecution had decimally failed to substantiate their argument for his prolonged incarceration.
He disputed a submission by prosecution in his previous appearance that he, (Kgotlayame) had a pending murder case committed at Salajwe, arguing that he had long been discharged from the alleged offence.
The accused insisted it was not true that he declined to allow the extraction of his blood sample, stating that he refused at first since it was not clear on why it had to be done.
“I declined because the investigating officer did not tell why the blood sample was needed except to say it was related to the two used condoms found in my apartment,” stated Kgotlayame.
Kgotlayame is facing a murder charge following the killing of Mosweu whose burnt body was discovered on Valentine’s eve this year along Molepolole/Mahetlwe road.
Kgotlayame of Mokgopeetsane ward in Molepolole was arrested around Metsimotlhabe following a four day search by Molepolole police after the discovery of Mosweu’s badly burnt remains.
Kgotlayame was alleged to have met Mosweu whom he gave lift together with a male passenger to Gaborone at around 9pm on the fateful night.
Things were reported to have took a turn after the male passenger alighted at Metsimotlhabe where the suspect drove to his Metsimotlhabe home on the pretext of getting medication for a headache, where the offence allegedly took place.
However, public prosecution counsel, Mr Keletso Mmusi, who stood in on behalf of Mr Farayi Mahwite briefed the court that following the order of the last court appearance, they were able to extract blood sample from the accused and were awaiting the affidavit from the Forensic Laboratory.
Meanwhile, Tebogo Ramantosha, the alleged mastermind in the killing of the three members of the Ramantosha family in June last year, made a brief appearance before Ms Rammapudi without update as the prosecutor Pascal Mhandu failed to make appearance.
The 27-year-old Ramantosha jointly with three friends, were accused of murdering his father and mother Patrick and Boingotlo Ramantosha aged 47 and 55 as well as his 22-year-old brother Keabetswe at Ntlolengwae ward in Molepolole.
His co-accused are Mmoloki Thaelo, Poloko Segwagwa and Cornelious Saidoo of Mogoditshane and Gaborone Block Seven. ENDS
