18 Mar 2019

Kutlwano police have arrested a suspect believed to have been raping women in Francistown at the beginning of this month.

Kutlwano police station commander, Superintendent Neo Serumola, said the police recorded two rape incidents which occurred in the same fashion.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that both women met with the suspect at Lizard club where he promised to buy them some drinks at Club Lagos ,” he said.

He said the two incidents happened on March 2 and 9.

In the first incident, the suspect agreed with a 35-year-old woman to change the place of entertainment from Lizard Club to Club Lagos, but the man raped her on their way.

Superintendent Serumola explained that in the first incident the suspect, threatened to kill the victim when she tried to question where they were going upon realising that they had changed the direction.

He said the investigations showed that the suspect raped the victim repeatedly before he got away with the victim’s cellphone and P50.

Superintendent Serumola  said the victim, who later managed to untie herself, sought help from passing vehicles and was taken by police for medical examination.

In the second incident, Superintendent Serumola explained that the suspect lured a Zimbabwean woman to go to Club Lagos and raped her on their way.

The suspect also went away with cash amounting to P200 before dumping the victim near Precious filling station.

Supt Serumola said that the victim was found by a passerby in the early hours of the morning after he heard screams. He said after further investigations both incidents point to the suspect because of the vehicle that was used. ENDS
