Rape suspect on run

Police are looking for a suspect in a rape incident that occurred at Sese near Jwaneng recently.
Jwaneng Police Station Commander, Superintendent Thuso Basuti said the case, which was reported the following day, involved a 22-year-old victim of Kagiso ward in Sese.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the young woman and her friend were arriving home from a drinking spree when they found a man in the yard.
Supt. Basuti said it was reported that the friend managed to flee the scene while the suspect took the victim to his place and proceeded to rape her.
Supt. Basuti said although the complainant was able to locate the suspect’s place where the crime took place, they were yet to make an arrest as he was still at large.
He said the young woman was treated and discharged the same day while police investigations continue.
The station commander expressed concern at the high rate of rape cases in his jurisdiction.
“This is the third case since January to date. It is a high number considering that it is only the beginning of the year,” he said.
He advised men to respect women and their decisions on sexual matters while encouraging women to avoid walking at night.
In a different incident, Supt. Basuti said two men aged 24 and 33 were on March 5 arraigned before Jwaneng Magistrate Court to answer for a single count of murder.
He said the duo, from Pitseng and Thabala, were linked to the murder of a 23-year-old man of Lekgolobotlo at Pitseng.
He said the accused reportedly had a misunderstanding with the deceased during a drinking spree, and that his lifeless body was found on the road the following morning.
He was certified dead on arrival at Jwaneng Mine Hospital.
Supt Basuti encouraged people to resolve their misunderstandings amicably rather than taking the law into their hands.
The two men will appear again for mention on March 19. ENDS
