Hard work pays dividends

Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) director, Mr Oarabile Lesole says there is need to reward individuals who work hard to take the country forward.
Speaking at Moshupa Sub-district employees performance awards ceremony recently, Mr Lesole said awards served to appreciate and recognise merit as well as promote a culture of excellence among employees.
“I urge you all to work hard in ensuring quality service delivery for the improvement of the standard of living of Moshupa Sub-district communities,” he said.
Mr Lesole said one of the key challenges that Botswana was faced with included poor work ethics, which meant that employees’ attitude towards work was bad.
He noted that the Annual Global Competitive Reports published by the World Economic Forum indicated that for the past 12 years, poor work ethics had been identified as the most problematic attribute contributing to poor business growth in Botswana.
Mr Lesole therefore urged Batswana to shun poor work ethics and challenged employees to do away with such attitudes and moods for the betterment of the nation.
He however observed that the employer needed to look at all factors affecting employees, which were their conditions of service, skills inventory and competencies.
Mr Lesole said the employer should capacitate the work force to fully discharge their mandate as well as provide tools of the trade for optimum output, emphatically pointing out that resourced work environments were conducive for organisations to thrive.
He said the employer should be considerate about the importance of leadership in driving a positive attitude towards productivity and also in what made employees not to perform.
Mr Lesole said BNPC was in partnership with the government and other critical stakeholders to implement a project known as Work Ethics and Mindset Change geared at transforming people’s attitudes to bring about enhanced performance.
Therefore, he said he welcomed the sub-council to engage the BNPC if they were faced with such challenges. ENDS
