Magistrate denies attempted murder accused bail

18 Feb 2019

Attempted murder accused person, Larrious Setshwantsho, will remain behind bars after Ghanzi Senior Magistrate Thapelo Buang denied him bail on Monday 18.

The magistrate said he denied the accused freedom in the interest of justice.

Setshwantsho would appear again in court on March 1.

Prior to the bail ruling, the accused person appeared in court on Friday and the presiding officer did not read the ruling citing the need for more time to prepare.

The Defence attorney, Mr Thabo Malambane, had on that day pleaded with court to at least postpone the matter to afternoon to accord the magistrate time to prepare the ruling.

Mr Malambane said any delays on the bail ruling would not be fair to the accused saying it was violation of  his rights.

Additionally, he argued that postponement of the bail ruling would take the matter out of scope since the bail on its own was urgent.

He said if the court wanted to deny the accused bail, it should just pronounce it rather than deny the accused bail by postponing the ruling.

Larrious Setshwantsho is accused of an attempted murder by shooting Mr Roller Setlabane on February 8 at Bofelo Farm No: 7 in the Ghanzi District.

The victim is still admitted   at Bokamoso Private Hospital.ends
