Accused attempts to attack magistrate
17 Feb 2019
Police were on February 15 called to restrain a 27-year-old accused person who attempted to attack Gaborone-based Chief Magistrate Lenah Mokibe-Oahile inside a Molepolole courtroom.
Ms Mokibe-Oahile was presiding over a robbery case, when the accused Phenyo Ramakwadi tried to attack her.
The police restrained Ramakwadi, who had jumped over the magistrate desk.
Ramakwadi together with Tshepang Kaile (24) and Keabetswe Moetse (28) were in court for trial of a robbery incident that occurred in 2012.
The trio robbed Ms Anastacia Ramotshabi in Thamaga.
However, Ramakwadi stated that he was not fit enough to stand trial and he attempted to attack the magistrate so as to bring the court attention to his plea.
The case, which had to be suspended for a while, resumed later to allow the investigating officer, Detective Constable Thapelo Seboni, to give evidence.
Meanwhile, Thamaga station commander, Superintendent Moses Kwarare, confirmed that Kaile had been remanded for another robbery case while Metse was on bail for another robbery case.
Ramakwadi is serving sentence for other offences. Ends
