Court denies alleged violent man bail

Kanye Magistrate has remanded in jail 42-year-old Letshwao Seikanego for allegedly beating up two men causing them multiple injuries. 

He will appear for mention February 18.

In denying him bail, Magistrate Bame Ngake said police investigations were ongoing. 

The accused, who is facing two similar charges, is charged with unlawful wounding for assaulting the duo of Messrs Mokganetsi Thuso and Ditshotlo Kgomothebe. 

According the charge sheet, on January 26, at Lotlhakane West village, Seikanego unlawfully assaulted Mr Ketshabile by beating him with a stick all over the body and hitting him with a shovel four times, thereby causing multiple injuries. 

It further states that on the same day, the accused also assaulted Mr Kgomothebe by hitting him with a shovel on his right leg and twice on the back thereby causing him injuries. 

Magistrate Ngake said it was necessary for the accused to be remanded to accord the state ease of conducting investigations. 

The accused person told the magistrate that he would conduct his own defense during the trial. 

In his plea, the accused pleaded with the court to grant him bail as he was employed and had to go to work, adding that he was the sole breadwinner at home and a caregiver for his mother and daughter. 

“I have been in jail for a while. 

I will lose my belongings if I stay long in jail. 

I also have to take care of my daughter for her to go to school,” he said.

 In his remarks, the prosecutor pleaded with the court to continue remanding the accused as the investigations were still ongoing. 

“We are yet to interview witnesses and also find the shovels that were used,” he said. ends
