Yun Genius Karate Academie has taken its services to Selebi Phikwe.
The organisation’s founder, Sensei Otsile ‘Tengo’ Motsamai said the Selebi Phikwe branch opened last year.
Its maiden was opened in Kasane in 2001 under the name Chobe Karate Academy and Francistown in 2014. Both Selebi Phikwe and Francistown branches operate under the name Yun Genius Karate Academie.
Sensei Motsamai said the academy targeted children aged three years and above.
He said it was already operating in some English medium schools in Selebi Phikwe such as Kopano where he trained 35 children and was awaiting response from other schools.
“My academy will also provide free training in government schools, from primary to senior schools,” he said.
He said he was looking at producing young karatekas from Selebi Phikwe, who would be able to participate in tournaments.
The academy, he said would also focus on out of school youth to steer them from engaging in alcohol and drug abuse.
A former coach for the karate junior national team in 2017, Motsamai said the academy had a traceable record of producing best karatekas.
Some of his products include, Mothusi Lingela, who won position one in Kumite during Botswana games 2017, Chawada Muzila and Amogelang Gabonwe who won silver and bronze respectively in Kumite during Botswana games 2015.
The trio is a product of Chobe Karate Academy.
He said about 30 karatekas have graduated from his academy in Chobe.
The Francistown branch, he said had produced about 70 karatekas, seven of whom served in the national team and some who had represented the country in Zone 6 and won medals.
His dream, he said was to produce Olympics and world championships material. ENDS
