Social clubs donate to Lobatse secondary

Four social clubs from the Southern District have joined forces to assist underprivileged members of their communities through an initiative called ‘Football Masters Corporate Social Responsibility’.
Through the initiative, Dipashasha football club from Lobatse, Pitsane Masters from Pitsane, Kanye Masters from Kanye and Goodhope Farmers hold an annual football tournament with the broader objective of assisting the underprivileged.
This year’s tournament was held at Lobatse Senior Secondary School recently.
It was used as a platform to educate the youth about dangers of drugs and substance abuse.
Furthermore, the four teams donated sanitary pads to Lobatse Secondary School students.
The organising committee chairperson, Freeman Sentshwaragane said they realised that they had a responsibility to help their communities adding that the idea to donate sanitary pads to schools started last year when they donated pads worth P2 000 to Goodhope Senior Secondary school.
He said each team donated P500 or more, and this year they managed to raise around P3 000, which was used to buy the pads for Lobatse Secondary School students.
He said football should not only be used to interact with friends and socialise, but teams should also identify needs in their areas and contribute to meet them.
He said it was not the first time Dipashasha, which was formed in 1991, contributed to the community, saying during 2016 festive season, they donated food, toys and clothing hampers to hospitalised children at Athlone Hospital in Lobatse.
He said it was their endeavour to grow and contribute even bigger things in future.
Wellington Lekgothu, a senior guidance and counselling teacher at Lobatse Secondary School said they were pleased to receive such gifts from the Football Master Corporate Social Responsibility.
He said the pads were going to be given to the girls in the school, with priority to ones from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Councillor for the Boswelatlou ward, Themba Setimela commended the teams for the good gesture, adding that the sanitary pads would give the girls dignity and contribute towards better results.
He encouraged the teams to continue with their spirit of compassion.
The event, which started with a football game between Dipashasha and Goodhope Farmers, where the latter defeated the former 4-0, was also graced by some representatives from the Botswana Football Association. ENDS
