24 Jan 2019
A 23-year-old man of Ghanzi has allegedly raped a 23-year-old Botho College student in Ghanzi on January 20.
Narrating the incident of the alleged rape, Ghanzi Police Station Commander, Superintendent Modiri Lekone said the suspect and the victim, together with the victim’s friend, were at a drinking place when the suspect requested them to accompany him to the ATM (Automated Teller Machine) to withdraw cash.
Supt Lekone said it was alleged that when they reached the ATM, the suspect claimed that he had forgotten his bank card at his residence, and that they proceeded to his house where the suspect and victim went into the suspect's house as the woman wanted to use the toilet.
The suspect, he said, allegedly locked the house before dragging the victim to his bedroom where he allegedly raped her.
He said the suspect was reported to have fell asleep after the rape, and that the victim managed to escape from the house and went home where she revealed her ordeal to her sister. The two later reported the matter to the police.
Supt Lekone said the suspect was in police custody to help them with investigations. He noted that he has another pending case of rape.
The police chief also said they were investigating a case in which a 41-year-old man was knocked down by a vehicle in Ghanzi township on January 22.
The victim is admitted at Ghanzi Primary Hospital. ENDs
