Takatokwane police are investigating an incident in which a truck overturned along Salajwe/Kaudwane gravel road after hitting a pothole, resulting in the death of two passengers.
Takatokwane police station commander, Superintendent Ocean Maraganyane, said in an interview that the accident happened 24km from Salajwe on the night of August 4 at around 11pm.
He said the truck was carrying six people including the driver, two of whom died while two others incurred serious injuries and were recuperating at the Scottish Livingstone Hospital in Molepolole. Another two escaped with minor injuries.
The deceased are a male and female aged between 18 and 34, originating from Francistown and Salajwe respectively. Supt. Maraganyane said it took a while to rescue the victims as they were trapped inside the truck prompting them to seek assistance from Thebephatshwa Air Base.
Thus, he cautioned drivers to exercise due care when driving along the Salajwe/Kaudwane road because it had thick vegetation on the sides which impaired visibility of livestock and road signs. He also cautioned drivers to desist from drinking alcohol while driving. ENDS
