The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development’s plan to construct kgotla offices in Mochudi during the National Development Plan (NDP) 10 was deferred due to recession, Minister Peter Siele said on Monday.
Responding to a parliamentary question from the MP for Kgatleng West, Mr Gilbert Mangole, he said he was aware that Kgatleng Tribal Administration headquarters had never been provided with proper kgotla offices and were using the ones provided by Bakgatla bogosi.
“Due to the poor status of the current offices, my ministry had planned to construct new ones for Kgatleng Tribal Administration during the National Development Plan 9, but the project was deferred together with others in Francistown (Phase 4), Lobatse (Motswedi) after completion of their designs due to recession,” the minister said. He said as a result, he could not state with certainty when new office accommodation would be built for Kgatleng Tribal Administration.
MP Mangole had asked the minister if he was aware that Kgatleng Tribal Administration headquarters in Mochudi has never been provided with Kgotla offices and instead use the residence of the late Kgosi Linchwe I as offices. He also asked the minister if he was aware that the house in question is currently dilapidated and congested, and wanted know to when would the ministry provide the Kgatleng Tribal Administration with decent office accommodation.
