Crime overview for festive season

Botswana Police Services has recorded 39 deaths during its end of year operations undertaken between December 21 last year and January 3.
According to a police press release, preliminary statistics indicate that out of the 39 deaths, 28 resulted from road traffic accidents while eleven were murder cases.
It further states that one accident in which many people lost their lives occurred on December 29, some 45 kilometres from Pandamatenga in which a Toyota Quantum hit a trailer towed by a truck during the course of overtaking the truck. As a result, the minibus caught fire and six people lost their lives, says the release.
It further says during the same period, 109 rape cases were recorded 'which was worrisome as rape is one of the most violent and intrusive crimes'. A total number of 105 break-ins were recorded during the operation as well as 45 robbery cases. ENDS
