A police officer reportedly died in the line of duty on Christmas Eve after he was attacked by three suspects near Lose Siding along the A1 Road.
The 39-year-old constable of Molepolole was certified dead at Mahalapye District Hospital on the same day.
According to a media release from the Botswana Police Service, the incident occurred after the deceased and his 29-year-old female co-worker, who were on a high way patrol, stopped a motor vehicle, which was allegedly carelessly driven.
The release states that the suspects then attacked the officers and seriously injured the deceased before they disappeared, leaving the motor vehicle they were using, which could have been stolen in Maun.
The female officer has since been treated and discharged from the hospital.
The release further states that the three men, aged between 26 and 31, all from Maun, were arrested at a house in Mahalapye on Christmas Day.
Meanwhile, Ghanzi police are investigating an incident in which a 28-year-old man died after he was knocked down by a vehicle.
It is alleged that the driver, who was allegedly drunk, drove through a crowed on Christmas Day.
The man was allegedly found sleeping in his car at the time when the police were dispersing a crowd from a drinking spot.
The man allegedly drove through the crowd and fatally injured the deceased and seriously injured four other victims aged between 19 and 27.
Police investigations on the matter are ongoing while a 50-year-old suspect is helping the police with investigations. ENDS
