Sankoyo Extension Gunners share spoils

04 Dec 2018

Extension Gunners coach, Enos Mmesi has apologised to suppporters for a dull display that ended with a 1-1 draw against visiting Sankoyo Bush Bucks.

Mmesi made the apology in an interview after a late second half own goal cost them an opportunity to climb to position six of the BTC premiership table. Trusted defender, Mosimanegape Ntwaetsile headed the ball into his own net in a frantic attempt to keep Sankoyo at arm’s length, but painfully reduced himself from hero to zero.

Mmesi said his charges had every opportunity to put the game out of their opponents’ reach in the first half, but that complacency had the better of them. He said he was disappointed that his boys let their opponents into the game after dominating proceedings for a long spell.

Gunners were the better side and gave their opponents little time and space to work with in the first half, but could not convert the many chances they created. Gunners goal came through Obonye Moswate who converted a cross from Mpho Kgaswane. Kgaswane had cut through the midfield to deliver a cross which was easily dealt with, but the resultant rebound was utilised well by Moswate.

The Peleng boys could have extended the lead in the second half through Kenanao Kgetholetsile, Kudzanai Machadzani and Alfred Leku, but they either shot into Kabelo Kuti’s hands or wide of the mark. Sankoyo’s Bapaletswe Simon did a great job of keeping Kgetholetsile at bay.

At one particular point, Leku skillfully plucked the ball from the air, beat the defender, charged towards  the helpless keeper, but shot over the bar. Leku was immediately replaced by Thabiso Mabachi.

Although not many chances were created in the second half, Sankoyo, who are still languishing at the bottom of the table, showed no respect to the home side but were not able to put the final ball behind the last line of defence. However, Sankoyo could have equalised a few minutes into the second half through Gaongalelwe Dipateletso’s cross but his mates were caught flat footed.

Sankoyo coach, Gadimang Tiiso was happy to get a point away from home. Although they have collected eight out of a possible 39 points, Tiiso said the league was still young. He said his side was hamstrung by financial challenges plus an inexperienced squad.

He said the Maun-based club could not afford the services of experienced players, and urged Sankoyo supporters to rally behind the team financially and enable him to bolster the squad in the January transfer window. ENDS
