Vandalism of street lights worrisome

28 Nov 2018

Tutume sub district council chairperson, Mr Ishmael Mokgethi has raised a concern about the vandalized newly installed streets lights around Tutume.

Officially opening the full sub council session on November 26, Mr Mokgethi said it was very disappointing that the P280 million development project aimed at changing the lives of residents had been destroyed.

He said Tutume residents had over the years appealed to government to bring developments to the village but it was disappointing to note that such developments were being destroyed.

Councillor Mokgethi said the newly installed street lights form part of the Tutume infrastructure development project and by far, installation of street lights was almost done and the on-going project stands at 43 per cent and scheduled to be completed by March 2020.

He said the project was running on schedule as per their recent site visits and tour of the whole project. He thus appealed to fellow councilors to address and caution their electorates against vandalising national projects.

Councillor Mokgethi warned those involved to desist from damaging government property as action would be taken against them.

He said this financial year the sub district would implement about 13 projects under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) III. The projects, he added included amongst others primary schools backlog eradication, 147 funded under the constituency community fund projects and 10 under the major maintenance programme.

He said implementing all the projects was not an easy task, considering the limited resources at their disposal. However, he said they had made great strides in the implementation process.

The sub district council chairperson highlighted that the 13 ESP projects were progressing well with eight of them being ahead of schedule and the remaining five on schedule.

Regarding the constituency fund projects, he noted that they were also progressing well, noting that they had decided to channel most of the resources to those lagging behind so that by the end of 2018-2019 they would be completed.

In addition, he stated that they had started consultation and preparation for the 2019-2020 financial year constituency fund projects so that they would implement projects on time. ENDS
