In Christianity, music is anchored on fellowship and praise, according to Minister of Transport and Communications, Nonofo Molefhi.
Molefi, who was a speaking at the Inter- Parishes Catholic church choir competition in Selebi Phikwe Saturday, said music brought glory to God. The minister said music also formed part of entertainment, brought unity between members of the choirs and the church.
Molefi also Member of Parliament for Selebi Phikwe East said choirs should complement preaching and ensure that their music reach a wider community. Choirs should be vessels of honor and serve God’s purpose and make people inspired and motivated through song and dance, he said.
He added that for choirs to be successful, the driving force was discipline within members in order to persevere. Government recognises performing and fine arts as a discipline and was committed to see it enhanced to greater levels.
Mr Molefhi stated that government would continue to support arts and urged church choirs to record their music for people to enjoy. Meanwhile, a member of Tlhatlhogong Parish Council, Mr Josphat Molotshwa said music conveys a particular message according to a particular project and stated that it forms a pivot in people’s life.
Choirs also donated toiletry to less privileged members of Selebi Phikwe. In an interview with secretary of Vicariate of Francistown Association (Sunday) Mr Mompati Motsietsi, decried of failure to advertise the competition.
He said St Gabriel’s choir of Serowe emerged the overall winners of the competition in African and Western hymn category followed by St Anthony of Palapye. The competition attracted five choirs St James and Our Lady from Francistown, Palapye’s St Anthony’s, St Gabriel’s from Serowe and the host Tlhatlhogong from Selebi Phikwe. ENDS
