Department of Tourism, Grand Palm Hotel and Corporate Business Solutions (CBS) donated goods amounting to P46 00 to pupils at Matsheng Junior Secondary School in Sojwe in the Kweneng District recently.
The trio donated toiletries, sanitary pads and laptops.
Speaking during the donation, tourism department director, Ms Kelebaone Maselesele, said they were responding to government’s appeal for all to assist the needy.
She said her department was grateful of the opportunity they were offered to contribute to the less privileged and explained that the department realised that they could not realise targeted goals hence courting Grand Palm and Corporate Business Solutions.
She said they found it appropriate to donate to Matsheng JSS because they recognized the importance of education.
“I would like to encourage all of you to scan the environment around you and identify business opportunities that exist in which you can be effectively supported by the different departments of the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism; the business opportunities include among others tourism enterprises, e.g. campsites, backyard nurseries and game farming,” she said.
For her part, Grand Palm Hotel operations manager, Ms Keletso Bogatsum said her company would adopt the school and promised to offer support whenever needed.
She thanked the tourism department to have given them an opportunity to show their love and support to the pupils because they also considered the vitality and took pride in education therefore they were more than willing to offer any kind of support to schools.
Ms Bogatsu said they believed the donation would positively impact on the lives of pupils since issues of hygiene would be improved and boost their personal and academic confidence hence leading to better performance from the school.
“Our main idea is to revive and upgrade issues of hygiene among you as students because the more the environment is clean the more you can improve your self-esteems and pick up your results, most importantly, I would like to urge parents to give their outmost support to students and not leave all the burden to the teachers,” she said.
When accepting the donation, the deputy school head, Ms Tshegang Molome, appreciated the gift hampers saying they would make a difference in her school as well as motivate pupils to work harder.
Ms Molome further stated that the school, which offered boarding facilities, had over 700 pupils and was faced with challenges such as damaged school properties such as classes where windows and doors had been damaged and the school fence was also damaged which gave livestock access into the school.
