Schools participate in Tsamaya Safely
01 Aug 2013
Schools in Gaborone recently participated in a new and innovative road safety teaching resource known as: Tsamaya Safely.
The Tsamaya Safely education tool, which was developed for schools contains flip charts, boards, cards, sketch books, worksheet as well as teachers notes. The tool would allow a continued delivery of the road safety message by professional teaching staff in a regular structured way through the curriculum or within the schools road safety and wellness clubs.
The facilitator of Tsamaya Safely project, Mr Muyanja Muleto said educating the public and influencing attitudes and behaviours towards road safety was vital, and the first step towards achieving good road user attitudes.
The Gaborone West cluster schools plus a few others outside Gaborone had been chosen by the Ministry of Education and Skills Development through the South East regional office to participate in the needs assessment to determine whether there was a gap in strategy that Tsamaya Safely could bridge when it comes to road safety education in schools.
The Tsamaya Safely initiative was a direct response to both the national road safety vision of achieving safer roads by 2016 as well as the global efforts to safer roads by 2020.
The Tsamaya safely exercise was coordinated by Matovu Abdul-Nasser Kiwewesi from Vital Bridge Educational in South Africa and sponsored by Impex Fasteners and Tools, a local motor spare parts company as part of their corporate social responsibility investment. ENDS
