Giants await minnows

20 Sep 2018

All roads lead to the National Stadium tomorrow (September 22) for a mouth-watering double header featuring Gaborone giants against BR Highlanders and Sankoyo Bush Bucks.

Opening proceedings will be Gaborone United against new comers BR Highlanders in the first game and Township Rollers against Maun-based Sankoyo Bush Bucks in the second game.

Gaborone United are among teams in dire need of points after they were docked three points by the Confederation of African Football.

With only a point after four games, Moyagoleele will be looking to accumulate points against the new comers and move away from the bottom of the log as early as possible. Both teams are sitting on a point each.

The game will be followed by a fixture between defending champions Township Rollers and Sankoyo Bush Bucks. Rollers will be buoyed by their good performance last weekend in which they became the first team to halt high flying Sharps Shooting Stars.

Sankoyo, together with BR Highlanders and Mochudi Centre Chiefs, are the only outfits still on the hunt for their first win, but Ngurungu, who were humbled 0-3 in their own backyard last weekend by Security Systems, are unlikely to see a turn of fortunes this weekend against the marauding Rollers.

Orapa United will be looking to pick where they left off last weekend when they welcome former premier league aristocrats, Centre Chiefs at Itekeng Stadium in Orapa.

The Kgatleng giants are now no strangers to struggling and this season looks to be no different as they are still without a win in four games, collecting only two points.

Meanwhile after starting the season on fire, Jwaneng Galaxy stars seem to be deeming.

Galaxy sent shockwaves to opponents after hitting the net 10 times in the first two games without conceding, but the goals had since dried up after they shot blanks in their last two games.

That, however, does not take the potent power out of the Jwaneng outfit and Black Forest, who have been leaky at the back having conceded 10 goals in four games will still need to be on high alert.

Galaxy on the other hand will want to maintain their clean sheet having yet to concede a goal.

High punching Sharps Shooting Stars will also look to redeem their good start to the premiership when they visit Notwane at the Molepolole Sports Complex.

The Zola boys started the league on a high despite being handed one of the toughest opening fixtures.

Sharps have managed to claim the scalps of Gaborone United, Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Orapa United in succession before being stopped by Rollers last weekend.

Sharps will be looking to get back on track against a Notwane side making a return to top flight football, although Toronto will be no pushovers.

At the Lobatse Sports Complex, Extension Gunners will welcome Prisons XI while in the last game still on September 22, Miscellaneous will be lying in wait for log leaders, BDF XI.

Matebele are well aware that a win will ensure they still inhale fresh air atop the log standings should Rollers fail to win, even though Popa still has a game in hand.

A single game is billed for September 23 when Security Systems welcome Police XI at the Molepolole Sports Complex.

After losing their first three games, Systems looked more like a new team when they caught Sankoyo hibernating at Maun last weekend and hit three goals past them to collect their first points.

The Alarm Boys will be hoping the win lifts their morale against the Corps, who are enjoying a good startto the league as they currently sit on position four with two wins and two draws.

Police XI are still among the few elites who have not lost a game.

All games start at 4pm except the fixtures between GU and BR highlanders and Security Systems and Police XI that start at 3:45pm as well as the fixture between Rollers and Sankoyo which starts at 7pm. ENDS
