Kalavango volleyball club tale of woes continues

10 Sep 2018

Mafolofolo has beaten Kalavango 3-0 in Molepolole on September 8.

The two Gaborone sides battled it out at Molepolole Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) indoor court at the on going Mascom Volleyball  league round two games.

Although the game did not produce the much anticipated sparks as one would think, it was rather a very low tempo match.

Kalavango lost three straight sets to Mafolofolo.

In the first set kalavango played well and were able to resist Mafolofolo but towards the end of the first set one of their key players sustained an injury  causing the team to lose grip on the tempo of the game ending the first set  (21-25).

Kalavango continued losing most of their points in the second and third set to Mafolofolo which really exposed their weaknesses in the open.

It was now clear that having lost most of their key players to Mag Stimela, which is now dominating the log, has punched holes in the once mighty Kalavango.

The second and third set ended 15-25 each. In an interview, Mafolofolo coach, Kabo Ntshinogang said the game went well saying their opponent was playing a very slow game.

He also said that although they had won the game, this was still work in progress as their focus is to prepare the team for 2020.

Ntshinogang said that they want to see a stronger in team in 2020 to reclaim their brilliance.

He acknowledged that they made mistakes here and there citing that their service was not up to scratch.

But in all other areas for instance their block and pass was better than their previous matches.

Mafolofolo have played 18 games so far and are left with one match against police, which will be their last game in the league.

However, Ntshinogang is happy to have lost two matches out of 18 saying it shows good performance on their side.

Kalavango head coach, Isaac Thengelani attributed their loss to injuries and lack of training.

He said that his team did not train adequately as he was away for quite some time and this put pressure on his assistant coach as he had to look after two teams.

Besides that, he acknowledged that the team is yet to recover after the departure of some of his players.   At the moment he said he is focusing on development and the new players he is having.  So far, Kalavango has lost all their games against the top teams.

Thengelani has however not given in as he is looking to do much better in the upcoming games.

Other games that were played on September 8 in Molepolole on the women’s side, Mafolofolo beat Spiking Stars 3-0 and Kalavango won 3-0 to Spiking Stars.

On the men’s side Spiking Stars won 3-0 against Mafolofolo and Kalavango beat lost 2-3 to Mafolofolo. ENDS
