Phadisa still pleads for bail

03 Sep 2018

Eleven months after being arrested for two offences of murder, Daniel Phadisa is still languishing in jail as the court keeps rejecting his plea for bail.

During a brief appearance before Magistrate Gaseitsiwe Tonoki of Broadhurst Magistrates Court on Monday, Phadisa once again pleaded to be released on bail, promising the court that he would abide by any conditions that the court may impose.

Phadisa complained about the slow pace at which investigations into the matter were progressing, saying given the delays in completing them, the court should grant him bail.

The accused also complained that the prosecutor, Ms Neo Molelekwa hardly attended court sessions since taking over the case.

Addressing the court, Ms Molelekwa had told the court that the prosecution had still not received the photo album of one of Phadisa’s victims from the investigating team.

Ruling on the accused bail application, Magistrate Tonoki said there had not been any change in the circumstances that had led to Phadisa being denied bail following his previous applications.

Phadisa is alleged to have, on September 30 last year, murdered two women, Bembe Magosi and her daughter Gomolemo Motladiile in Broadhurst in Gaborone. His next date of mention has been set to September 13. ENDS
